Our client is one of the largest self-test diagnostic businesses in the world, supporting customers in 100 countries. It has been a leader in the area of self-testing diabetes care and offers a variety of products, services and support to help people who are living with diabetes and those who support them.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Ph.D. or MS.-level science professional who enjoys the challenge of a job that offers a mix of both research and development assignments on new and existing products. We are seeking chemists, biochemists, and scientists in related fields who have development experience with the reagent side of medical diagnostic products/devices.

The Scientist will work closely with the R&D Engineering Team in design and evaluation of early experimental or prototype evaluations through the completion and launch of the finished product. The incumbent’s input on study design and data analysis will directly impact the successful completion of the development effort. The Scientist will design experiments, write protocols, conduct bench studies and evaluate data to draw unambiguous conclusions. These activities will directly impact the ability of the project teams to meet required milestones.

Primary activities include:

  • Evaluate existing products to find areas for performance improvement, including precision and accuracy. This involves a thorough understanding of current product attributes and manufacturing processes.
  • Review stability practices, conduct stability studies, evaluate stability data, and make recommendations for improvements and extending shelf life of the current products.
  • Assist in algorithm development for current and future products, addressing calibration requirements, temperature compensation and other mathematical operations.
  • Design and conduct R&D experiments for new product development, including raw material selection, protein conjugation and formulations optimization.
  • Write and/or review product evaluation protocols, conduct product validation studies and write validation reports.
  • Interact with engineering and conduct functional studies to evaluate engineering designs.
  • Develop new products, including immunoassays and enzyme-based assays.
  • Deliver presentations of ideas and findings as required.
  • Work with vendors on material evaluation and selection.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Travel as needed, although this is expected to be infrequently

Experience in diagnostic product development is required.

Candidates will be considered for two different position levels, depending on degree level and years of experience. MS degree with 8+ years experience or Ph.D. with 4+ years of relevant experience are targeted minimums.

Candidates with expertise in the following areas are of highest interest: protein chemistry, including protein conjugation and related analytical techniques; lateral flow assay development; antibody development; peptide synthesis; glucose sensor development.

For either level:

  • Must have good people skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to influence and motivate others to act.
  • Must have excellent technical skills in product development, process development, protein chemistry. Familiarity with QSR and Six-Sigma highly desired.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to think critically and creatively.

Ph.D. or MS degree in chemistry, biochemistry, immunochemistry or related life science areas required.

To be confidentially considered for this opportunity, please submit your chronological resume/CV in Word format, including daytime phone number.
